 Prophetess Syokimau INTRODUCTION  In the Kamba language (Kikamba), the prefix “Syo-” is often used to mean “of”, “belonging to”, or “associated with” something. It usually shows possession, origin, or relationship — especially in names or places. Examples: 1. Syokimau → “The one from Kimau” or “belonging to Kimau.” “Syo” = of/from “Kimau” = a person’s name → So, “Syokimau” means “woman of Kimau” or “Kimau’s wife.” 2. Syokau → “The one from Kau.” 3. Syovatha → “Of Vatha” (belonging to or from Vatha). Who was Syokimua? Syokimau was a legendary Kamba prophetess from precolonial Kenya — one of the most famous seers in Kamba history.
