Edwin Sifuna Ousted As ODM Secretary General.

1. Edwin Sifuna has been removed as ODM Secretary-General

On 11 February 2026, the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General.

The decision came amid deep internal disagreements within ODM, especially around strategy and cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration following late party leader Raila Odinga’s death.

Other party leaders — including Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Taita Taveta Senator Johnes Mwaruma — were also removed from NEC roles in the same session.

 2. Context — calls for his expulsion

Before his removal, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi publicly urged ODM leadership to expel Sifuna over what he called defiance of party positions and advancing rival interests.

Mbadi accused Sifuna of actions that undermine party coherence and unity, reflecting broader factional tensions within ODM.

3. Sifuna’s own stance

Prior to his removal, Sifuna had brushed off rumours of imminent ouster, insisting his membership in ODM remained intact even if he lost party leadership roles.

After the NEC resolution, reports indicate he was ousted only from the leadership role, not necessarily expelled as a party member. There’s no official confirmation yet that his membership in ODM has been terminated.
